Donate To The Playground Goal - $600,000 12/29/2011

As many of you know, the current playground is badly in need of restoration, repair, and enhancement. As part of the overall park renovation, the playground will be upgraded to replace outdated and unsafe playground equipment and also provide a ADA-compliant playground.

However the cost of a high-standards playground in San Francisco will surpass the allocated amount, so we ask for your help. We are working to raise $600,000 in additional funds from the community by January 2012 to ensure that the playground is a unique and special environment that will encourage healthy and creative play for years to come.

Please help contribute to this effort by donating and spreading the word to other potential donors.  For more information on the renovation, including donor booklets, conceptual designs and our online donation form, and more, please visit our playground donation page.

    2nd Annual “Fall Social” 09/23/2011

FOLP is happy to announce our second annual “Fall Social” event to raise awareness about Lafayette Park and the diverse groups of people it serves, and about FOLP.  With great Fall weather expected, and the upcoming park renovation, it is the perfect time to connect all parts of our Lafayette Park community.

    When: October 14, 5-7pm
Where: Southwest quadrant of the park

    More Details:
FOLP will provide free food and drink, and live acoustic entertainment throughout the evening.  Opportunity to learn about, and volunteer for, various FOLP and other community activities will be available.  There will be information about the ongoing park renovation and the opportunity to meet citywide park professionals, as well as FOLP board members and activists working with Dog Friends of Lafayette Park, Tennis Friends of Lafayette Park, the Lafayette Park Playground Committee, and the Lafayette Park Landscape Committee.

This is the first of many events planned over the next 12 months, before the actual renovation gets underway.  The $10 million public bond funding will not cover all of the improvements planned for the renovation.  Park lighting, a Community Garden, and an enhanced Playground are Lafayette Park projects that may require private fundraising.  Although the Fall Social is free, and totally produced by FOLP and some very supportive sponsors, we hope attendees will use this event to fall in love with our park, and spark their desire to contribute or raise funds so our newly renovated park will be fun, beautiful, and safe for all of our park.

Music for the evening’s event will be provided by local San Francisco artists and musicians. Artists scheduled to perform include: Katie Garibaldi www.katiegaribaldi.com Noelle Richards, Lucky Lew http://www.myspace.com/luckylew2 and Roy G. Biv and the Mnemonic Devices http://www.facebook.com/roygbivband

Come out on October 14 and have fun!

When: Sat. June 4th, 9AM-12PM, rain or shine
Where: Lafayette Park picnic area, just north of the playground, visible from the corner of Laguna and Washington Streets

Construction Work at CPMC campus - March 7-25 02/27/2011

FOLP, if you haven't heard, there will be some construction work being done on Sacramento Street near CPMC in the coming weeks. We are re-posting here so that you're aware.
On Monday, March 7, construction will begin on Sacramento Street between Webster and Buchanan Streets to replace and install fiber optic network infrastructure in the road serving the hospital.  The upgrade is being done to improve connection between facilities for better patient care and in preparation for electronic medical records. These upgrades will also assist the hospital in connectivity to city emergency services on a day-to-day basis and during a major earthquake or disaster. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our neighbors and patients.

We’re pleased to be working with Phase III construction, an experienced team working in the Bay Area and San Francisco serving clients such as BART, Verizon and Nextel.  Construction will last 3 weeks, Monday, March 7-Friday, March 25. Hours for construction will be from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday barring any unforeseen need to work on a Saturday.  A trench will be dug in the roadway. Access to CPMC’s emergency room will be available at all times.  Passage on the sidewalk will be open at all times.

There will be one lane of automobile traffic on Sacramento Street between Buchanan and Webster during construction hours only.  Flag persons will be at both ends of the street to direct traffic.  Additionally, CPMC security will be onsite to provide direction for emergency vehicles and patients. We anticipate taking 7-10 parking spaces (not metered) on Sacramento Street between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Those parking spaces and the two-way use of the road will be returned to the neighborhood after 4 p.m. for overnight and early morning use.  The Muni bus stop will be in operation throughout the duration of the project. We’re working closely with the City and Muni to provide safe passage and minimal disruption.

We anticipate that there will be noise associated with this project as we cut the cement; we apologize to those of you that will be home during the day and experience the noise.  We’re working to minimize the disruption in the neighborhood by providing additional personnel to direct traffic.

Should an issue arise during construction please call Paula Lykins, manager of community relations at CPMC at 415-600-7482. If there is an urgent matter you may call security dispatch at 415- 600-0837 or Juan Carlos Dezubiria, project manager for Phase III on his cell phone at 408-690-5816.

    Sincerely,
    Hamila Kownacki, R.N.
Vice President and CAO Pacific Campus
