Thank you to everybody who attended the April 22nd Park Renovation Planning Meeting, hosted by the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department. We had a great turnout ( 65+ people ), and excellent feedback was offered in a number of areas. Please read the official notes, hosted within the Park Renovation section. On Monday, March 15, 2010, Dog Friends of Lafayette Park met at Stuart Hall High School to discuss the bond measure and how it might affect dog owners, prior to the April 22nd 2010 Meeting. In attendance were 40 or so park users. The meeting was led by Steffen Franz (Board Member, Friends of Lafayette Park), with guests Marianne Bertuccelli (NSM, SF RPD), Sally Stephans (Member, SF Dog), Steven the gardener at LP, and Jacob Gilchrist (Community Liaison, SF RPD). Also in attendance were Friends Of Lafayette Park board members Art Persyko, and Shila Clement. The purpose of the meeting was to reach a consensus regarding where the funding will be best used to improve the park experience for dog owners. There were many points expressed and it is clear that many people have desires for the park which very important to them. The goal of this meeting was to get as much feedback and as many suggestions as possible and then identify the 10 or so points that could and would be presented at the upcoming April 22nd official public input meeting. "Dog Friends of Lafayette Park (DFOLP)" is inviting dog owners to join us for a discussion about the current and future dog policies in Lafayette Park. This will give all local dog owners a chance to have their voice heard before the first (of 3) official SF Recreation and Park Department public input meetings to plan the renovation of Lafayette Park, on April 22, 2010. Local dog owners are invited to make suggestions on improving the park and park policies for the dogs, dog owners, as well as for other park users. Also invited to this meeting are board members of the Friends of Lafayette Park, Sally Stephens of SF Dog, and Marianne Bertuccelli, the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department's Neighborhood Service Area manager for the area that includes Lafayette Park. In February 2008, San Francisco voters approved a $185 million bond for park improvements. Lafayette Park was one of several SF Parks to be renovated by 2013 under this bond. Join the Friends of Lafayette Park and the San Francisco Parks Department to give your input, and help guide the future of the park! For more information, visit our Park Renovation Project page. Planning for the $10-million dollar bond improvements for Lafayette park will begin this year! Please look out for an upcoming announcement on a community planning meeting for this important initiative which will shape the renovation of our park. FOLP is in the process of coordinating with the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department to gather public input for the renovation plans. More details to come soon! SFPD has increased patrols in the park, and we thank them for the improved safety for all. Please note as a result of this, that some dog friends whose companions are off leash at the time of patrol may have received some warnings from police. The designated off-leash dog area is along Sacramento Street at Octavia, next to the tennis courts. |
