Tennis in Lafayette Park
Tennis Courts
Lafayette Park has two tennis courts, located at the southeast corner of the park. The courts are open to the public on a first-come basis.
Courts Closure
The courts will be closed for resurfacing starting May 2012 and lasting several months, as part of the larger park renovation effort. Check the Park Renovation Project page for more details. We'll keep you posted as we know more from the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department.
Court Rules and Etiquette
- Per San Francisco Recreation and Park rules, if the courts are in use when you arrive, players on the tennis court may finish their current set or rally for up to 30 minutes total before they must give up the court to anyone waiting to play tennis on that court.
- Sitting on one of the benches inside the court with your rackets is the best way to signal to everyone you are next in line for that court. Waiting outside the courts may work as well, as long as you communicate clearly with everyone (the players currently on the court and anyone who may be waiting at a different location near the court) about your intentions.
