Last Chance to Put Your Name on the Plaza with a Donation of $2,000 or MoreFriends of Lafayette Park Playground Committee is working to raise $100,000 from the community to leverage bond funds and build a unique, nature-themed playground that will enhance the beauty of the park and encourage healthy and creative play for years to come. So far we’ve raised over $475,000 to fund design and construction, and need just $100,000 to reach our goal. With a gift of $2,000 or more, you will receive a permanent paver or bronze placque on the plaza by the playground! Please make your donation today and help us meet our goal by May 31, 2012. More information is available on our playground donation page.
As many of you know, the current playground is badly in need of restoration, repair, and enhancement. As part of the overall park renovation, the playground will be upgraded to replace outdated and unsafe playground equipment and also provide a ADA-compliant playground. However the cost of a high-standards playground in San Francisco will surpass the allocated amount, so we ask for your help. We are working to raise $600,000 in additional funds from the community by January 2012 to ensure that the playground is a unique and special environment that will encourage healthy and creative play for years to come. Please help contribute to this effort by donating and spreading the word to other potential donors. For more information on the renovation, including donor booklets, conceptual designs and our online donation form, and more, please visit our playground donation page.
FOLP is happy to announce our second annual “Fall Social” event to raise awareness about Lafayette Park and the diverse groups of people it serves, and about FOLP. With great Fall weather expected, and the upcoming park renovation, it is the perfect time to connect all parts of our Lafayette Park community.
When: October 14, 5-7pm Where: Southwest quadrant of the park
More Details: FOLP will provide free food and drink, and live acoustic entertainment throughout the evening. Opportunity to learn about, and volunteer for, various FOLP and other community activities will be available. There will be information about the ongoing park renovation and the opportunity to meet citywide park professionals, as well as FOLP board members and activists working with Dog Friends of Lafayette Park, Tennis Friends of Lafayette Park, the Lafayette Park Playground Committee, and the Lafayette Park Landscape Committee.
This is the first of many events planned over the next 12 months, before the actual renovation gets underway. The $10 million public bond funding will not cover all of the improvements planned for the renovation. Park lighting, a Community Garden, and an enhanced Playground are Lafayette Park projects that may require private fundraising. Although the Fall Social is free, and totally produced by FOLP and some very supportive sponsors, we hope attendees will use this event to fall in love with our park, and spark their desire to contribute or raise funds so our newly renovated park will be fun, beautiful, and safe for all of our park.
Music for the evening’s event will be provided by local San Francisco artists and musicians. Artists scheduled to perform include: Katie Garibaldi www.katiegaribaldi.com Noelle Richards, Lucky Lew http://www.myspace.com/luckylew2 and Roy G. Biv and the Mnemonic Devices http://www.facebook.com/roygbivband
Come out on October 14 and have fun!
Please join us for the next monthly Cleaning and Greening volunteer day event .
When: Saturday, July 9th, 9 AM - noon Where: We meet at the picnic tables, just north of the playground, visible from the corner of Laguna and Washington Streets
